Neutral Density Photography Awards 'Honourable Mention'

I am very proud to announce that my 'Children' series of images has been awarded an 'Honorable Mention' in the Portraits section of this prestigious 2015 Competition. I entered a series of 3 images taken from my Nursery Portraits that were created in one sitting at Littlesaurus Nursery in April 2015.

I am very excited to receive such amazing and positive feedback and am feeling inspired to make even more beautiful portraits in 2016!

Rueben receives and 'Honourable Mention' in the International Photography Association 'Lucie' Awards

I am very pleased to announce that my portrait of 'Rueben' received an Honorable Mention in the 13th Annual Lucie Awards, presented at Carnegie Hall New York 27th October 2015. I entered his photograph i to the People/Children section of the competition that is hailed as the Oscar night of the Photography Industry.

This is the first year I have entered this competition and the photograph of Rueben was one taken from his school portrait gallery. It wasn't taken with the possibility of entering competitions in mind so I am very pleased with this positive feedback. Many thanks to Rueben's parents for allowing me too use this image in the competition, it is very much appreciated.

ABC Magazine front cover

Out today is the latest Summer edition of ABC magazine with my little cover star photograph of India from Hove on the front page.

There is an article to accompany it inside on pages 100-101 titled 'Getting the Best Photographs of Children' where I have offered my 10 best tips to help parents make the most of that brief second where your child actually looks up at your camera and smiles.

I hope they are of some use :)

NPG Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize 2015

Many thanks to the parents of the beautiful Nursery children I photographed for my entry into this years Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize- My entries are 'Sophia' & 'Douglas & Boobear' and they are featuring now in my Portraits gallery.

I love these two portraits especially because of the sheer beauty and honesty in Sophia's eyes and Douglas' relationship with his Boobear and direct look into my camera.

Cover Stars

Ive just updated my website with some lovely images I have taken for ABC magazine (the Summer issue out on 1st July 2015) and I am very excited to announce that one of them has been chosen as the front cover for the Hampshire wide edition.

The photograph chosen is one of a little girl eating an ice cream, the image need to be 'as Summery as possible' when in fact it was blowing a gale and freezing cold on Hove seafront! It was a lot of fun all the same and everyone ended up with Ice cream.

Look out for my editorial piece inside the magazine on  'How to get the best photographs of children'I have tried to give some top tips whilst not giving away all of my secrets ;)

Shoreham Harbour by night

Last night I went in search of some night photography at Shoreham Harbour. Apart from the fact that it was freezing, I was so jumpy (being there by myself in the dark) that it was probably the most hasty photo opportunity Ive ever had. ApoIogies to any Shoreham residents who saw a shifty character dressed in black running around with a tripod at 7.30 last night.I was playing with my Nikon D800E in HDR mode just to see what it was all about... and I'm not too impressed really.

These exposures range from 2.5 to 8 seconds, 400iso, at f13.

Wallasea Island salt marshes

On a freezing grey February day last week I went to the Essex tidal salt marshes of Wallasea Island. I spent many years of my life here, looking for stuff to do while my parents either sailed, scrubbed off anti foul or were in the 'Wardroom' with friends.

The tidal inlets were as muddy and smelly as I remember them - I used to scan them for hours looking for crabs or jetsam from France. Random things always make their way in land after a high tide and I loved to scour the high water mark for evidence of people from far off lands (but usually just as far as Southend on sea;)

The large metal and wooden blocks in some of the photographs are the old pontoons that our boats used to be moored to. Believe it or not they actually float and got here the same way as the lighter jetsam has.

One gave me a nail through the foot, several others gave me hours of splinter torment and I caught jellyfish after jellyfish in my fishing net while balancing on the un submerged part of our mooring block.

These ones have been here for as long as I can remember, almost definitely washed up after the great Hurricane of 1987.
